The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit won five
awards at the recent Jewish
Community Centers Association
of North America Biennial 2000
convention. More than 1,000 del-
egates from the U.S., Canada,
Europe, Israel and South America
attended.
The Janice Charach Epstein
Gallery won in the brochures cate-
gory. Materials promoting the
annual Jewish Book Fair won for
special promotional materials. The
Heart of the Neighborhood
Capital Campaign received an
award for JCC revenue develop-
ment. The Kids All Together spe-
cial-needs inclusion program was
noted for program services.
Seminars for Adult Jewish
Enrichment (SAJE) received hon-
ors for Jewish educational effec-
tiveness.
Delegates to the biennial,
"Building a Meaningful Jewish

Community," were JCC Executive
Director David Sorkin and wife
Arlene Sorkin; Associate Executive
Director Leslie Bash; board mem-
bers Terry Nosan and wife Joanne
Nosan, Gerald Wolberg and wife
Connie Wolberg, Sharon Hart and
Miriam Bergman; past presidents
Linda Lee and Joel Tauber;
Executive Vice President Emeritus
Irwin Shaw; University of
Michigan Project StaR intern Haley
Warshaw.
The Detroit JCC delegates also
participated as presenters at six
different workshops.
The biennial marked the
unveiling of the Standards for
JCCs, to help elevate the caliber of
service and programs.
Next Generation awards, given
to up-and-coming leaders within
the JCC movement, were present-
ed to Detroiters Terry Nosan,
Gerald Wolberg and Miriam
Bergman.
