Jerusalem/JTA — Israel's High Court
of Justice considered petitions filed by
opposition legislators challenging the
involvement of private businesspeople
in the peace talks at Camp David.
In one petition, the court gave
Prime Minister Ehud Barak five days
to explain why the involvement of
Yossi Ginossar, who has business deal-
ings with the Palestinian Authority, is
not a conflict of interest.
Jerusalem/JTA — Israel's High Court of
Justice agreed to reconsider its recent
decision allowing the Women of the
Wall group to hold services at the
Western Wall.
The decision, which also allowed the
women to read aloud from the Torah
and wear prayer shawls at the Wall, had
prompted an outcry from Orthodox
politicians.
Knesset Votes
On New Elections
Jerusalem/JTA — Israel's Knesset will
hold preliminary votes in two weeks on
two bills calling for the dissolution of
Parliament and holding early elections.
The Knesset recently defeated a simi-
lar bill, but Speaker Avraham Burg
approved holding the votes after legal
advisers said that in light of the changed
political circumstances in Israel, the
Knesset regulations requiring a six-
month waiting period could be waived.

Washington/JTA — Iran's test over the
weekend of a medium-range missile
capable of reaching Israel is a "serious
threat to the region and to U.S. non-
proliferation interests," the State
Department said.
Spokesman Philip Reeker said the
United States has tried for years to pre-
vent the transfer of missile technology
and equipment to the Islamic state.
The Israel Defense Force's chief of
staff, Lt. Gen. Shaul Mofaz, told Israel
Radio that the Shahab 3 Missile poses
a threat not only to Israel, but to every
country within its 800-mile range.

of the U.N. body that inspected
Iraqi weapons capabilities said that
Iraqi Deputy Prime-Minister Tariq
Aziz told him Baghdad developed
biological weapons to deal with the
"Zionist entity."
Richard Butler was speaking in
Jerusalem at a lecture sponsored by the
Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs.
Militants Training
In Iran
Jerusalem/JTA — Hamas militants from
the Gaya Strip have been undergoing
military training in Iran, including
learning how to fire missiles and deto-
nate explosives, the Israeli daily Ha'aretz
reported.
The paper said a Hamas militant dis-
closed the information after being arrest-
ed by Israel's Shin Bet domestic security
service.
Army Draft
For Israeli Arabs?
Jerusalem/JTA — The right-wing Israel,
Our Home Party recently introduced a
Knesset bill calling for the compulsory
draft of Israeli Arabs.
They are currently exempt from
Israel's mandatory army draft and are
not required to complete an alternate
national service program.
Israel Sends
Help To Greece
Jerusalem/JTA — Israel dispatched a
plane, two helicopters and some 50
people to help Greece combat fires
that have broken out in a heat wave
engulfing the region.
The Israeli helicopters are equipped
with navigation systems that enable the
firefighting teams to work at night.
China Protests
Canceled Sale
Washington/JTA — China protest-
ed Israel's decision to cancel the sale
of an advanced airborne radar sys-
tem to Beijing, a move Israel took
after coming under heavy criticism
from the United States.
