For more than half a century, Billy Jacobs'
life has revolved around the Jewish
He honed his squash skills there. He
promoted the Maccabi Games there.
He took his kids Monni and Robert to
athletic events and helped organize the
Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and was
active in the Special Olympics - all of it
at the JCC.
So, it was understandable that Billy and
his wife Shirlee would want to do their
part to enhance facilities for health and
fitness activity at the Center.
They've made a gift of $1 million through
the Millennium Campaign for Detroit's
Jewish Future, sponsored by the Jewish
Federation and United Jewish Foundation
of Metropolitan Detroit.
An entrance to the health and fitness area
of the JCC - on the Eugene and Marcia
Applebaum Jewish Community Campus in
West Bloomfield - will carry their name.
The Jacobs' figure that if other families can
enjoy the JCC half as much as they have,
their gift will have been well worth it.
