V

ivian and Erwin Lieberman can
stop and smell the roses at the top
of the stairway landing on the sec-
ond floor of their Birmingham
home. This unlikely spot became the perfect
choice for a garden room. Interior designers
Jan Fazio and Sally Versaci, of Fazio Versaci
in Bloomfield Hills, transformed a dull office
space into a cheery garden room when the
Liebermans purchased the home.
"We wanted to do something fun, and
Vivian loves flowers," says Sally Versaci. "We
brought an outdoor garden space indoors,"
she adds.
Versaci credits West Bloomfield artist
Deborah Rader for providing the room with
a life-size sculpture of a garden lady. "We
started looking for props and it all came
together with the garden lady as a key focal
point."
Matt Nichols and Colin Ryle, of Specialty
Painting in Royal Oak, created a charming
pastel garden mural with a white picket fence beckoning visitors. Fazio Versaci used Anna
French fabrics for a country look. An antique chair from Country Classics in Birmingham, and a
floral circular carpet from Upstairs Downstairs, also in Birmingham, add to the floral mix.
For Vivian the room is a delight. "I love seeing the flowers on the landing, and I feel like it's
summer all year long here."
