arlay is a bet or parlay can
be a conversation, but to
Walter Cohen of
Bloomfield Hills, Parlay is
a 35-foot Catalina sailboat. His wife
Margaret named the boat because of
the double entendre, but it's Cohen
and his children — Nicholas, David
and Laura Beth — who love the
sport. For pleasure, the family can
sail a small boat on Sodon Lake, but
for competition the Parlay sets sail
on the Great Lakes.
Sailing is a passion for the 52-

Cohen doesn't just sail. He races.
His boat is moored at the

He is also a member of the Detroit
River Yachting Association.
He competes all through the
summer. Cohen enjoys the chal-

whose Parlay took third place in the

day, you can have a world-class racer
next to you," notes Cohen. "And if
you did everything right you could
beat them."
Cohen especially enjoys the Port
Huron-Mackinac Race, a race
known for its tradition and chal-
lenge. "The history of it makes it
special. There's a sense of adven-
ture, endurance and nature," he
adds. Cohen explains that depend-
ing on the wind, it can be a long
race.
"When you finish, there's a real
sense of accomplishment."
