omething extraordi-
nary is happening in
Valdosta, Ga. It's
called Akhlah. But first, a
little background.
Valdosta is a few miles from
the bordenof Florida. Akhlah is
Hebrew slang for "cool."
So a volunteer committee
there of Conservative, Ortho-
dox and Reform Jews com-
bined those elements to create
a Web site for Jewish children
(that's the Akhlah part).
Explains site webmaster Alan
Dunbar: "It is a very small com-
munity and we have to band
together."
Akhlah (more information fol-
lows) is one of many Web
sites for Jewish families you'll
find by browsing the Internet.
In fact, the sites are so numer-

ous that you may feel over-
whelmed.
If you choose to go search-
ing, keep the following in
mind:
• While programs like Net
Nanny can protect your child
from accessing some inappro-
priate material on the Internet,
no one has, as of yet, man-
aged to create a program that
will filter all the information you
do not want for your family.
If your son or daughter
enjoys looking up Jewish mate-
rial, you will need to be on the
lookout for "Jews for Jesus" and
other related groups.
Typically, they will draw chil-
dren in by promising a fun,
great Jewish site (just as their
missionaries attract converts by
assuring them their groups are
really about Judaism).
• You will need a great deal
of patience when looking on
