This year's TasteFest will get some extra spice
and some punkish fun with the help of some
members of the Motor City's Jewish community.

TasteFest 2000 marks the 12th
anniversary of the Fourth of July
celebration in Detroit's New
Center. As 35 restaurants, such as Mario's and the
Orchid Cafe, sell samples of their fare, 75 enter-
taining acts, including headliners Isaac Hayes and
Taj Mahal, will perform at no charge on four
stages.
The outdoor event — held 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m.
Friday-Monday, June 30-July 3, and 11:30 a.m.-
8 p.m. Tuesday, July 4 — in the area surrounding
the Fisher Building, also features a street market
with collectibles, an art show and children's activities, from a petting zoo to a
glove puppet workshop.
Most of the attractions will be set up along West . Grand Boulevard between
Woodward and the Lodge Freeway. The street market will be along Second Avenue.
The Detroit Spice Co., a new Eastern Market business operated by Randall
Fogelman, Ryan Fogelman and Donald Rafal, will introduce its new line of sauces
and spices at this year's TasteFest. Gangster Fun, which features Kenny Robinson
on trumpet and Josh Silverstein on percussions and vocals, makes its first
TasteFest appearance.
Opening night fund-raisers include a party held at the former GM World
Headquarters to benefit Boys Hope and a men's cook-off on the Fisher Building
parking deck to help the Henry Ford Hospital's Emergency Medical Needs fund.
