1972: Sally Priesand becomes the
first ordained female rabbi. A stu-
dent at Hebrew Union College,
Rabbi Priesand chose her profession
because she wanted to teach
Judaism. She accepted her first pul-
pit with a congregation in Eliza-
beth, N.J.

1973: Jackie Gayle is named

1977: Roselyn S. Yalow receives

the Nobel Prize in science, making
her the first American woman to do
