Dr. Ragowsky said.
Dr. Ragowsky came up with the
idea for the Manufacturing
Information -Systems Center about
two years ago, along with Harvey
Kahalas, dean and professor of Wayne
State University's School of Business
Administration. Once Kahalas, who is
also Jewish, "learned about what we
were doing, he asked me to plan and
build the center. Our research should
greatly help manufacturing companies
in the U.S. and Israel," said Dr.
Ragowsky.
He hopes to launch joint ventures
with universities in Israel and the
Association of Manufacturers in
Israel. "I would hope that Israeli stu-
dents will come here," said Dr.
Ragowsky.
The center's applications are a nat-
ural for the automotive industry. The
board of advisors is sprinkled with
auto industry representatives, as well
as a number of Jewish businessmen,
including Birmingham's Doug Bloom,
a major investor in Israeli manufac-
turing operations.
Said Bloom, "Arik Ragowsky has
the ability to make the most compli-
cated computer related issues under-
standable. This is a gift that all non-
technical information systems person-
nel should appreciate. With so much
activity in new business systems soft-
ware surrounding us daily, Arik has
the unique, extensive experience to
help executives sort out the positives

Or her business.
"His center is dedicated to helping
businesses of all sizes master the com-
plicated world of systems software."
Also on the board is Michael Egren
of Foamade Plasto Automotive in
Auburn Hills. Foamade manufactures
products primarily for the auto indus-
try using flexible plastic foams and
films that are used in filters, seals and
gaskets, heat and sound insulation
and interior trims.
Said Egren, "I have always been
leery of package software designed for
multiple industries. The automotive
industry is very unique and requires
intimate knowledge of the operations,
systems, etc. Software needs to be
very flexible.
"When I first met Arik," Egren
said, "it was clear to me that he was
someone who knew the need to clear-
ly understand the needs of the busi-
ness, and accurately compare those
needs to the functionality of available
software.
"Sdrware companies don't like to
tell you what their software won't do,
and how they are going to resolve the
deficiencies," said Egren. "They just
like to sell it and let you work out the
problems.
'As Arik knows, it is much better to
have those issues and terms worked out
before you buy, not after. He is one of
the few that understands that." ❑
