Maas Prize
Nominees

Candidates are sought for the sec-
ond Jewish Federation Prize for
Achievement in Jewish Culture and
Continuity/Fine Arts. The prize was
established by the Benard L. Maas
Foundation, which supports educa-
tion, the arts, cultural institutions
and Jewish organizations with con-
cern for the wellbeing of children
and youth.
The prize recognizes outstanding
creative achievement in the arts and
humanities as a vital force in Jewish
life and continuity Consideration
for awards will go to working artists,
scholars and educators making a
unique contribution to Jewish conti-
nuity through a fine arts medium.
Prizes will be awarded for overall
excellence of a body of work and the
importance of its contribution to the
quality and continuity of Jewish life
in Michigan. The prize for individu-
als includes a cash award. In the cat-
egory of organizations and institu-
tions, a certificate of recognition will
be awarded.
Awards will be given to nominees
in the category of fine arts including
visual arts, media arts, architecture,
literary arts and multi-disciplinary.
On a rotating basis, awards will
be given in performing arts (music,
theater and dance) and humanities
(contemporary literary, historical,
social and cultural studies).
The purpose of this prize is to
identify and reward exemplary
Jewish creativity in the areas of fine
arts, performing arts and the
humanities. In addition, the award
will celebrate excellence in the arts
and humanities in Jewish life and
bring honor and recognition to indi-
vidual artists, scholars and institu-
tions whose work and/or programs
greatly enrich Jewish life and com-
munity.
The prize was established at the
suggestion of the Benard L. Maas
Foundation and made possible by
an endowment to the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
Deadline for names of nominees
is Friday, June 30. Nomination
packets are due back by Monday,
