he younger generation is
being raised on digital. Music,
movies, television and home
PCs are converging into one
space, a virtual space.
And children and
teens inhabit that
space easily. At home
and at school, they're
taking advantage of
the Internet.
Homework can be
researched; school
projects can be inves-
tigated; games can be
played. Most impor-
tandy, young people
can hang out with
their friends in chat
rooms, gossip on mes-
sage boards and share
links to their favorite
sites. Some teens have
even built their own
Web sites to display
hobbies and talents.
Though the
national BBYO has
its own site, less than
a handful of regions
have gone digital.
Now the Michigan
region will join their
ranks. With the
helpful input of several BBYO mem-
bers and Executive Regional Director
Arnie Weiner, JN Online was able to
build them a home in cyberspace:
bbyo.jnonline.com .
It was a pleasure to work with the
BBYO members. Their friendliness
and excitement conveyed their inex-
haustible stream of ideas.
As evident by their large member-
ship, these teens find Judaism relevant
and vital. They know belonging to a
Jewish youth group is a great way to
make new friends, share unique expe-
riences and explore their Judaism. By
launching that spirit online, the con-
nection may be shared with a larger
community.
JN Online seeks to build a strong
Jewish community online by providing

7

information, resources and services that
are relevant. The BBYOers provide valu-
able insight into a segment of online
folks that JN Online hopes to reach in a
meaningful way. We plan to keep their
ideas in mind for the future.
It's a natural click. ❑
