ESPN Comes
To Israel

The heritage that makes you Jewish may bring hope to millions who suffer from mental
illness.

Johns Hopkins scientists, led by Dr. Ann Pulver, are closing in on the biological causes of
bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Finding the cause could be a huge step toward
new, more effective treatments and medications for these disorders.

While Jewish individuals are no more likely to develop mental illness, the Jewish tradition
of marrying within the faith makes the genetic trail much easier to follow. And that's why
we need your help.

If you're of Jewish descent, and a living family member has been diagnosed with either
bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, please call to learn more about this important,
confidential Johns Hopkins research study.

If you qualify, we'll schedule an interview at a time and place convenient for you, along
with a blood sample. Compensation is provided.

Call today. Your ancestors could bring new hope to millions of people, and to
generations to come.

Ex-Mayor Faces
Prison Term

Port Huron — Former Mayor Gerald
"Ajax" Ackerman was sentenced June
19 to up to 38 years in prison after
being found guilty of having sex with
underage girls he was supervising as
part of a youth center he ran.
Ackerman grew up in a Conservative
Jewish family in Oak Park.
St. Clair County Judge Peter
Deegan sentenced Ackerman, 43, fol-
lowing his May conviction of 10
felony counts of criminal sexual con-
duct in a retrial. He denied the allega-
tions.
Ackerman allegedly assaulted three
girls, ages 8, 11 and 12, at the youth
center he founded and directed, Clear
Choices, before his April 6, 1999,
arrest. The sexual acts allegedly
occurred in 1998 and 1999. He
resigned as mayor the next day and
the center closed.
Last October, a different jury con-
victed him of nine counts of indecent
exposure but deadlocked on other
felony charges. He was sentenced to a
year in jail following that conviction,
which is under appeal.
