THE FIVE SENSES

The, Canadian film The Five Senses was an audi-
ence favorite at the 1999 Cannes Film Festival, and
it captured the "Best Canadian Feature Film" award
at the Toronto International Film Festival. It also
garnered a Genie Award (Canada's Oscar) for its
director/screenwriter, Jeremy Podeswa.
The film deals with the disappearance of a young
child and how the tragedy affects the lives of five
principal characters through a series of interwoven
stories, each relating to one of the five senses — taste,
touch, smell, vision and hearing.
Metro Detroiters will get a sneak preview of
The Five Senses 7 p.m. Monday, June 26. The
Consulate General of Canada-Detroit and the
DIA join together to screen the film at the
Detroit Film Theatre (John R entrance of the
Detroit Institute of Arts) in celebration of Canada
Day and U.S. Independence Day. Jeremy Podeswa
will introduce the film and answer questions fol-
lowing the screening.

Stagecrafters, for the first time, is bringing a show
back to the Baldwin Theater, its home in Royal
Oak. Forever Plaid, conceived by Stuart Ross,
enjoyed a successful run earlier this year.
The hit Off-Broadway musical is about a fictional
'50s-style male quartet.
As the story goes in the show, The Plaids never
got to record their dream album; the four amateur
singers from Pennsylvania were killed in a car crash

they are allowed back on Earth for one night only, to
perform the pop tunes of the '50s and '60s, mixed
with comical bits and choreography.
