Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Nina's bat mitzvah presentation
was about her great-grandmother
and titled "Rosa's Story: Jewish
Emigration from Hungary at the
Turn of the Century." For her
Yiddish component, she recited
excerpts from a story by Sholem
Aleichem.
- Nina is a seventh grader at the
Friends School in Detroit. Her
interests include figure skating,
piano, art, reading and writing. Her
mitzvah projects included preparing
food at St. Leo's Soup Kitchen,
babysitting at Alternatives for Girls,
teaching computer at Chrysler
School in Detroit and singing with
other shule students at the Teitel
and Prentis Jewish apartments in
Oak Park.

Ryan Benjamin Cohn will celebrate
his bar mitzvah on
Friday, June 16, at
Temple Beth El.
He is the son of
Lori and Mark
Cohn and brother
to Taylor. Proud
grandparents are
Renee and Edward
Stone and Phyllis
and S. Leonard
Cohn.
A seventh-grade honor student at
Bloomfield Hills Middle School,
Ryan enjoys drama, forensics, ten-
nis, snowboarding, golf, violin and
summers at Camp Tanuga.
Ryan's mitzvah projects include
volunteering at the Jewish
Community Center pre-school, aid-
ing in the Temple Beth El religious
school and working on the book
drive for Detroit's Glazer School.

David Benjamin Cooper of
Huntington Woods will be called to
the Toiah as a bar
mitzvah on
Saturday, June 17,
at Congregation
Beth Shalom. David
is the son of Mari
and Alex Cooper
and the brother of
Rebecca. His very
proud grandparents
are Libby and Marx Cooper and
Osmo Masalin.
David is a seventh-grade honor
student at Norup Middle School in
Oak Park, where he plays cornet in
the jazz band. He enjoys the visual
arts, performing magic, downhill

skiing, boating with his grandpar-
ents and attending friends' bar/bat
mitzvahs.
David is a second-year counselor-
in-training with the Camp for the
Arts and his mitzvah projects
included assisting at Yad Ezra.

Joshua Hazan was called to the
Torah as a bar
mitzvah on
Saturday, June 10,
at Temple Emanu-
El. Josh is the son
of Stan Hazan and
Julie Greenberg
Hazan and older
brother of Jamie
and Rebecca. Proud
grandparents are
Tenny Greenberg, wife of the late
Ronald Greenberg, and Rachel
Hazan, wife of the late David
Hazan of Toronto.
Josh attends Norup Middle
School in Oak Park. He completed
his mitzvah project at Yad Ezra,
where he prepared and distributed
food packages. Josh loves to read
and enjoys computers, video games,
music and basketball. He plays the
piano as well as the saxophone in
Norup's band and jazz band.

Jeffrey Michael Issner will become
a bar mitzvah on Saturday, June 17,
at Adat Shalom
Synagogue. He is
the son of Lori and
Jim Issner and
brother of Marc.
Jeff is the grandson
of Gilda and
Werner Kaplan of
Vail, Colo., and
Hilde Wilzig of
Tamarac, Fla. He is also the grand-
son of the late Martin Issner.
Jeff attends Orchard Lake Middle
School in West Bloomfield. He
plays clarinet in the symphony band
and tenor saxophone in the jazz
band. Jeff volunteers for his school,
synagogue and community and has
enjoyed helping residents of the
Jewish Association for Residential
Care as his social-action project.
Jeff's interests include water and
snow skiing, music, reading and
baseball.

Ari Marc Kalmus will celebrate his
bar mitzvah at Temple Israel on
Friday, June 16. He is the son of
Shelley and Dr. Allan Kalmus and
brother of Marisa and Marni. Proud _
grandmother is Belle Kalmus. He is
