BROOKDALE
THE HERITAGE
A Detroit-produced film for Jewish
audiences — From Generation to
Generation: Jewish Families Talk
About Death — has received a local
Emmy for Outstanding Single Topic
program.
The film, which is designed to
help Jewish families talk honestly
about death and dying, received the
award from the Michigan Chapter of
the National Academy of Television
Arts and Sciences on May 20.
Nominees were judged on content,
creativity and execution of work.
The film was co-produced by Sue
Marx, Allyson Rockwell and Char
DeWolf; executive producer was
David Techner, funeral director of
Ira Kaufman Chapel. The Royal
Oak-based Sue Marx Films has won
18 Emmys.
Besides interviews with individu-
als who have lost a loved one, the
film acquaints viewers with Jewish
rituals surrounding death and the
celebration of Jewish life. It has
aired on several PBS stations,
including WTVS-Channel 56.
A consortium of Detroit founda-
tions and trusts, the Education
Forum for Jewish Philanthropy, the
Jewish Fund and the National
Covenant Foundation lent their
financial support to the production.
A study guide to accompany the
video for children and their parents
is in the works.
Behrman House in New York is
distributing the film for purchase by
families, schools, synagogues, funeral
homes, hospitals and public
libraries. For purchase information,
