T

he Internet has been a boon
to the footloose set,
whether they're traveling to
the local ski lodge or the
other side of the world.
An example: a new Web site on Tel
Aviv.
Tel Aviv Inider is like one of those
slickly produced magazines describing a
city's attractions. The magazines typical-
ly are distributed at hotels and airports.

Catering For All Occasions

It's the community's "book of why." With it, they'll keep in
touch with Jewish life. Interesting articles about their heritage,
the holidays, current events and politics. Plus art, literature,
dance, kosher cooking...who's having a baby, who's
having a bar mitzvah and who's passed away.

But you can peruse this one in the
comfort of your home — before set-
ting foot on an airplane.
The site is straightforwardly orga-
nized, with sections on transportation,
tourist services, art and architecture
and the like.
This is not detailed information; it
won't replace that trusty tourist guide
that can tell you exactly where to go
for the best hummus. Instead, the site
is meant to give you a taste, and it
does that successfully.
One of the best sections: a brief
introduction to Tel Aviv's history,
which begins with this intriguing
statement: "Tel Aviv is either 90 years
old or 112, depending on who's doing
the counting."
There's a decent collection of after-
hours entertainment joints, and a hand-
ful of restaurant recommendations,
complete with kashrut status ("Kosher
kitchen, but open on Saturday" is one of
the more interesting).
There's also a list of Tel Aviv Web
links.
This site isn't going to set the world
afire, but it's attractive, nicely orga-
nized and could provide prospective
travelers with a nice overview of the
city and its attractions.
