E-Zone at the JCC.
-Zone, an interactive audiovi-
sual media network featuring
local, cable and fitness net-
work TV and radio, DVD,
CD, cassette and Internet access, has
come to the Jewish Community Center
of Metropolitan Detroit.
The new equipment is connected
to 18 cardio machines in the Health
Club at the Kahn Building in West
Bloomfield. Eight treadmills, two
Stairmasters, four Precor
Ellipticals and four recumbent
bikes are connected to the net-
work.
The local JCC is the first in
the Midwest to be connected to .
the E-Zone. More than 10,000
terminals have been placed in
300 fitness clubs nationwide.
Health Club members from
both JCC locations are eligible to
use the networked equipment. It
connects to 135 local and cable
TV channels as well as custom-
produced e-TV channels.
Members can also play cas-
settes, CDs and audio books. Radio, a
video library, DVD and Internet
access will be available by year's end.
The network has a series of One-
On-One Fitness Training programs
for members who need help with
their workouts. For example, the
weight management program for
recumbent bikes is designed to burn
fat while getting motivational input
from an on-screen instructor. The
program includes a warmup, a 20-
minute workout and a cooldown with
stretching instructions.
Earphones are free to the first •
1,000 JCC Health Club members —
from both buildings — who use the
E-Zone-connected equipment.
For young adults, college age through
30-something.
