of Franklin, died June 2. She was a grad-
uate of Birmingham Groves High
School. In 1996, she participated in a
University of Michigan study abroad
program with an emphasis in Italian and
art history. Ms. Polan received her bach-
elor of science degree in biology from
the University of Michigan and a master
of public health degree in epidemiology
from Emory University Rollins School
of Public Health.
Her medical interests led her to
intern at Sinai Hospital, serve as a
research assistant at the University of
Michigan School of Public health and as
a teaching assistant in the University of
Michigan Biology Department. In addi-
tion, Ms. Polan was a group leader in
the Phoenix Volunteer Center and a
member of Amnesty International and
the Medical Students for Choice.
She is survived by her parents, Jesse
and Jane Polan of Franklin; brother,
Jason Polan; sister, Janile Polan; grand-
mother, Florence Poan. She was the lov-
ing granddaughter of the late Bernard
Polan, the late Saul J. Turell and the late
Renee G. Turell.
Interment at Franklin Cemetery.
