at the June meeting in Chicago by the
two UJC voting bodies. The board of
trustees and board of delegates are
dominated by federation representa-
tives, with larger federations getting
proportionally more representation
than smaller ones.
"Many, many federations want to
see the UJC budget smaller," said
Robert Aronson, CEO of the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
Aronson said he would have liked
to see the budget go below $40 mil-
lion, but still supports the proposal,
viewing this year as a first step.

Some Are Fearful

Meanwhile, smaller federations are
worried that their ability to raise funds
will be hindered by the UJC's pro-
posed cuts to regional offices, which
offer small and intermediate-sized
communities consultation on fund-
raising, recruiting personnel, market-
ing and other issues.
At an April meeting of the federa-
tions, the UJC's chief executive officer,
Louise Stoll, insisted that cuts in
regional offices would not mean a cut
in the quality of services, and that
they would simply be provided more
efficiently.
Howard Bloom, executive director
of the Jewish Federation of Greater
New Haven, (Conn.), a community of
24,000 Jews, said he feared cuts to
regional services and missions might
be "penny wise and pound foolish."

Corrections

In "On The Front Line" (June
2), the SLA was misidentified as
the Southern Lebanese Army; it's
the South Lebanon Army.
Jerome S. Kaufman was misiden-
tified as president of the Zionist
Organization of America Metro
Detroit District; he's the ZOA
national secretary.

In "The Green Connection"
(May 26), the Southeastern
Michigan Coalition on
Environment and Jewish Life"
was identified as one of 11
Michigan chapters; it's one of 11
national chapters. The correct
spelling of the name of the arti-
cle's author is Shiri Revital Bilik.

In "Temple Builds A Playscape"
(May 26), donations from the
family of the late Sally Clasky
helped pay for the playscape.

Honorable Prime Minister Ehud Barak
Prime Minister's Office
3 Kaplan Street
P.O. Box 187
Kiryat Ben Gurion
Jerusalem, 91919 Israel

Dear Mr. Barak:

When the Jews of Russia faced persecution, we stood with them.
When the Jews of Iran faced annihilation, we stood for them.
When the Jews in Entebbe faced death, we ran to them.
When the Jews of Ethiopia faced extinction, we brought them home.
When the Jews of Israel faced Iraqi scuds, we stood by them.
We cannot remain silent as Jewish Communities in Israel are at risk
of being abandoned.

Today the people of Israel face the loss of their borders, their free-
dom, their confidence and their future.

The memories of our forefathers; of every victim of terror and of
every soldier who died defending our dream face the prospect of
being dishonored even before the tears that mourn their sacrifice
have dried.

When we reclaimed our G-d given land, we did so for eternity. No
one has license to surrender those borders thus endangering our
people. No mortal was granted the right to alter Biblical prophecies
and obliterate G-d's promise to our forefathers.

To remain on our land while being encircled by those who vow to
drive us into the sea, provides no security ,.

To abandon our land for a "Promise" that we won't be attacked in
the future, provides no future. Let our enemies hold on to their
promises. We will hold on to our homes.

Mr. Barak, every leader leaves a legacy. Yours is becoming clear, even
asyou live. For years you have been known as a hero willing to
sacrifice anything to ensure the safety, security, and future of Israel.
Do not risk forever being known in Heaven and Earth as a Jew who
lost that perspective, and. destroyed more with the stroke of a pen
then our enemies destroyed with their stones.

Respectfully Yours,
The Hebron Fund
