I must now explain the connection. He
says, "Well, whenever I am on a
swing, I like to eat cheese."
I Alas, this simply will not do —
unless this is a family story that every-
! one knows and recognizes. (Players
I cannot make senseless connections,
but they can make ones that might be
I only known to those playing).
Now it's time for a vote. If the
majority of team players agree there
is no connection, Player B gains a
point. If they say the connection was
obvious, Player C gets a point.
(Nobody loses points in this game,
even if he can't make the connection.)
l• #9) Who Is It?
It's a lot more fun than a social-
: studies lesson. Find a few old copies
of magazines (ones that can be cut
up). Time and Newsweek and Peo-
pie are especially good for this.
Each person cuts out five pictures of
I people in the news, men and
women who are easily recogniz-
e able. Make certain only faces (no
1 names) show. Tape each photo onto
1 a piece of paper. Hold up one by
one. The first person to correctly
identify the face wins a point and,
of course, the one with the most
points wins.
#10) Fun Firsts
Ask your child to make a list of
10 things she has never tried.
1 These could be -activities she would
I like to learn but might find a little
1 scary, like swimming. Or she could
write down the name of a park she
has always wanted to visit, or a
food she has always wanted to •
taste, or a sport she• has always
1 wanted to play, or a foreign Ian-
: guage she has always wanted to
I learn. Next, get a journal. Then,
get planning. You may be able to
do all the firsts in one day, or it
may take a week. Along the way,
ask your daughter to write down
her feelings in the journal as she
completes each first. Some will give
1 her a feeling of great pride. Even
with those that may require extend-
ed -work, stress her accomplishment
1 in trying something new. Ask what
she learned along the way about
herself and the activity. ❑
