T
he sun broke though the clouds on May 10
just in time for the annual Israel Independence
Day Festival at Hillel Day School of
Metropolitan Detroit.
"The consensus was this is the best year we've had yet,"
said event co-chair Phyllis Pilcowitz of West Bloomfield.
"We do it as a 'fun-raiser' — our goal is to have fun."
The kids gave a thumbs-up to several new features,
including a bungee run, air-brush tattoo and outdoor
entertainment by a steel band. Among the favorites from
past years were the Israeli cafE, giant slide, moonwalk,
and ever-popular music by Star-Trax.
The committee of more than 100 parents and staff, co-
chaired by Tammy Gorosh of West Bloomfield, had been
working on the event since the - start of the school year.
"It's work, but it's fun," Pilcowitz said. "I love doing it
for the kids."
