With love and good wishes,
your loving wife Barbara,
Myrna, Sid and Marlow Konikow

his Hezbollah thugs ("Out Of
Lebanon," May 26, page 19)?
What of the hundreds of Israel's
best, brightest and most courageous
young men, who died there over the
past decade while the Israeli govern-
ment and our own state department
were negotiating with their murderer
and building him up as the "key to
peace"?
Already forgotten is Israel's deser-
tion of the Siyanim, those Arabs who
helped it in the area now occupied by
the nascent despotism to be called the
Palestinian state.
Peace process indeed! This is an
eternal stain on the honor of the. Jew-
ish people.
Will Israel be similarly betrayed by
its patrons in Washington?

Withdrawal
Not Easy

Concerning last week's editorial
("Who Said Pulling Out Would Be
Easy?" May 26, page 39), you stated
that Ehud Barak and his generals
should have foreseen the swift collapse
of the Syrian Liberation Army. I
believe you were referring to the SLA,
the South Lebanon Army, and not the
Syrian Liberation Army.
Having observed the SLA across
the Metula Good Fence, I have to
agree that Barak and his generals did
not fully and properly plan and exe-
cute the IDF withdrawal, which was
not a well-thought-out and accom-
plished military action. It was not
even an orderly retreat; it was an IDF
rout without consideration for the
SLA that had fought as an ally along-
side the IDF.

Poppy Day
A Success

On behalf of the Michigan Jewish
War Veterans and Ladies Auxiliary, we
would like to thank all those who
donated to our recent Poppy Day
campaign.
We want to give assurance that
we have no paid sales people or pro-
fessional fundraisers. All money
raised is used to service patients in
Michigan veterans' hospitals and
goes to related veteran benefits. It is

done without regard to race or reli-
gion.
We might add that our policy of
helping all veterans serves to enhance
the image of the Jewish veterans and,
thereby, enhances the image of all
Jewish people.

Concert Coverage
Aided Success

I'd like to thank the Jewish News for
the excellent coverage we enjoyed at
Adat Shalom Synagogue for the Shir
Joy concert last week, wherein the
Cantors Assembly honored Cantor
Larry Vieder for 40 years of dedicated
service ("Musical Tribute," May 19,
page 73).
Shelli Liebman Dorfman did a
thorough and beautiful representation
of Cantor Vieder and our event.
The overflow crowd enjoyed a con-
cert of world-class musicianship and
heartfelt narration. Surely your articles
are responsible for much of that atten-
dance.
