the menu as its veg-
etarian burger that
sells about 50 times
a day ... of everything on a cheese-
burger ... except the meat.
Mark will do whatever people want
with a hamburger ... Custom-styled,
as he calls it ... like mashing green
peppers and onions into the juicy
meat ... or what have you.
Carry-out? ... Certainly ... About
50% of Mark's business now is carry-
out ... any amount.
In 1998, Mark began work on a
Hunter House of downtown Detroit
... and opened it in February 1999 ...
at 1427 Randolph, in Harmonie Park,
a block south of the Detroit Athletic
Club as a full waitservice restaurant
with a complete liquor setup.
Seating in Detroit is 92 inside and
75 on the outside patio.
It's the same kind of operation as in
Birmingham ... except for the waitper-
sons and the addition of sandwiches,
salads, soups, chili and desserts ... The
same tasty hamburgers and cheeseburg-
ers as in Birmingham are available ... a
block from Comerica Park ... 1 1 /2
blocks from the Opera House ... and a
block from Music Hall.
The downtown Detroit Hunter
House is open Monday through
Thursday, 11 a.m. to midnight; Friday
and Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.;
Sunday, only when there is an opera
or Tiger baseball game, 11 a.m. to 7
p.m. ... There is music Friday and
Sattirday nights ... and shuttles to all
Detroit events.
In Harmonie Park, where Hunter
House is located, it is not unusual to
see people walking around with a
Hunter House burger in their mouth
... Chances are that those on Friday
and Saturday nights were made by
Mark, who cooks those juicy devils on
the restaurant's patio.
Hunter House is big with celebri-
ties who come in town ... like Jeff
Daniels, who worked for a day
behind the counter at Hunter House
in Birmingham, where the promo for
his movie, Pleasantville was filmed ...
Randy Smith, Detroit Tiger general
manager and hockey great Wayne
Gretsky, both Detroit Hunter House
regulars ... Bob Seger, actors Rob
Lowe and Don Johnson, Birmingham
... Glen Frey of the Eagles musical
group, and the Beach Boys,
