"What does it mean to define oneself as a gay or lesbian Jew?"
This humorous, touching and uplifting play with music explore the ways in which history, tradition and family in-
tersect with sexual identity. A talented, intergenerational ensemble of actors brings to life a variety of issues that
challenge the definition of religion, sexuality, culture and community.

The character of Rachel Moskowitz
also has a monologue in which she
talks about the obvious irony of being
what it means to be "out" as Jew —
her name always gave her away. In her
relationship with the "radical" Judith,
she is the believer.
Hammell, a veteran of community
theater as a director and actor, said the
role is a stretch for her.
"For one thing, I struggle with a
belief in God, so it's very difficult for
me to get inside the mind of a woman
who so resoundly believes," she said.
But it's also the first time Hammell
has played the role of a lesbian who is
in an intimate relationship.
"You do what you need to do to
make the reality work; you have a
moral obligation to be a fearless per-
son when you're an actor."
