waves, but I've done my share
of surfing the Information
Highway, and one thing I've
found to be true: some sites are more
navigable than others are. There are
sites that allow you to hang ten and
many more that throw you right off
your board into the cold sea! Here's
one of the smooth ones that will have
you singing Beach Boys songs.
Point your browser to the Jewish
Theological Seminary of America
Web site, www.jtsa.edu
Just looking? Try the Web guid-
ed tour by clicking on "Guided
Tour" at the top of the homepage.
In an easy to follow format, you're
given a quick taste of the high-
lights of this Web site. The sites
are presented on the top frame
while "Previous Page" and "Next •
Page" buttons at the bottom frame
hold your place, so you can
explore the pages that interest you.
Then when you're ready, you can go
back to where you left off.
Surfs up! Let's see what's here.
The Jewish Theological Seminary
in New York City calls itself the
"Academic and Spiritual Center of
Jewry Worldwide." This is truly a
great site for study and research as
well as an information reservoir for
potential students. If you're interested
in the former, pass on the "programs"
and "schools" buttons and head to the
"library," the largest outside of Israel.
No, you can't borrow the books or
magazines, but you can browse the
catalogs, or sample a number of exhi-
bitions, including Huntington Woods
artist Lynne Avadenka's "Boundaries
of the Universe: Twenty-Two Letters."
For the Shabbat scholar, JTS
Chancellor Ismar Schorsch's "Parashat
HaShavuah" allows a surfer to study
the weekly Torah portion. The articles
are up-to-date with an archive of earli-
er discourses also provided. If you're
interested in classes, click "Learn

subjects. "Morality Matters" scheduled
for this coming fall, as an example,
targets parents and middle-school age
children. The class will offer a discus-
sion of issues and dilemmas facing
young people today and appropriate
Jewish teachings to help all survive
them. All for a mere $30.
More learning? Click at the Melton
Research Center for a number of mini-
lessons like "The Brachot" or
"Geography of the Siddur.” There are
some for young learners, some for older
students, and others for teachers.
Neatly organized and attractive,
with a variety of instructional and
entertaining pages, the Jewish
Theological Seminary Web site is a
joy to explore. Catch the wave! 111
