MAKE AN IMPRESSION!
Ella Sharp Museum, 3225 Fourth St.
(Exit 138 off I-94), Jackson, (517)
787-2320, www.ellasharp.org . When
community activist Ella Sharp died in
1912, she left her farmhouse estate and
800 acres to the city ofJackson.
Everyone was shocked; she kept it a big
secret, says Heather Price, who now
works for the results of Sharp's generos-
ity: The Ella Sharp Museum. Made up
of several small historic buildings, a
modern exhibit building plus Ella's
house, the complex today would make
Ella, who grew up in Jackson and lived
a life that served others, proud. "This is
one of Jackson's great gems," says
Kristina Jones of the Jackson
Convention and Visitors Bureau. A
park, 18-hole golf course, Ella's
Granary restaurant, a gift shop and
three children's discovery areas also add
to the intriguing complex. The exhibit,
"Sunlight and Shadow: American
Impressionism," runs through June 18
and is the only one of its kind coming
to the state of Michigan, says Jones.

TA-DA!
The American Museum of Magic,
107 E. Michigan Ave, Marshall,(616)
781-7674. A tribute to the world of
magic and magicians, this fun muse-
um, housed in an 1868 building, fea-
tures a collection of magical goods
and memorabilia that spans four cen-
turies. Ropes, the carrying case once
used by Harry Blackstone and more
neat gadgets thrill visitors. Hours in
summer on weekends only, call ahead.

WINDMILLS OF YOUR MIND!
Holland Museum, 31 W Tenth St,
(616) 392-9084; and the Cappon
House, 228 W. Ninth St., (616) 392-
6740, both in Holland. What did lit-
tle girls play with in 1866? If they
were Dutch and lived in the Holland,
Mich. area it most certainly was an
Amsterdam dollhouse. Take a peek at
one of these treasures and more
Dutch heritage artifacts at both muse-
urns. When done museum-ing, enjoy
the town's many galleries and gift bou-
tiques and then sample some Dutch
pea soup at Queen's Inn, the only
Dutch cuisine restaurant in town. ri
