The decision to go out rocking is an
astute one by Stanley, 50; long-tongued
bassist Gene Simmons, also 50; lead gui-
tarist Ace Frehley, 48; and drummer
Peter Criss, 54. (Frehley and Criss left
the band in close succession in the early
'80s, in part because Stanley and
Simmons refused to tolerate their alco-
hol and drug use. Both have since
cleaned up their acts.)

time to go out."

that Kiss nearly called it quits
for good following the four-

cessful "Alive/World Wide"
reunion tour of 1996 and '97.
That concert trek was so
profitable it landed the band

zine. The tour, which marked
the first time Kiss' four found-
ing members had performed
together in 16 years, grossed a
