San Francisco — Wayne L. Feinstein,
executive vice president of the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit in
the early 1980s, has announced his
retirement from the same position at
the Jewish Community Federation of
San Francisco,
the Peninsula,
Marin and
Sonoma
Counties.
Feinstein,
48, has served
as CEO of the
San Francisco
federation for
nine years. In a
letter to
friends, he
Wayne Feinstein
wrote that the
decision came
after three years of thinking about "the
road not taken," 18 years as a large-
city federation executive and 27 years
in Jewish communal service.
Feinstein, an Albany, N.Y., native,
was Detroit federation's executive vice
president from 1982 to 1986, and
then spent five years in the same posi-
tion for the Jewish federation of
Greater Los Angeles. He took the San
Francisco job in 1991.
"Close friends have known for the
past few years," said Feinstein, "that
there were aspects of my work and/or -
new adventures that I must defer,
given the requirements of serving as
JCF's executive. Starting this summer,
I'll have the time to explore these areas
of interest and determine where my
path lies." .

Retrial Convicts
Ex-Mayor

Port Huron — A 12-member jury
convicted former Mayor Gerald
Ackerman of 10 felony counts of
criminal sexual conduct in a retrial.
He denied the allegations.
Ackerman, 43, allegedly assaulted
three girls, ages 8, 11 and 12, at the
youth center he founded and directed,
Clear Choices, before his April 6,
1999, arrest. He resigned as mayor the
next day and the center closed.
Last October, a different jury con- •
victed him of nine counts of indecent
exposure but deadlocked on other
felony charges. He was sentenced to a
year in jail.
