JCC Staffer At Conference

Michelle Tarrance of Troy, director
of recreation services at the Jewish
Community Center of Metropolitan
Detroit, is in Israel May 13-23 as
the only Detroit representative to
the international Maccabi confer-
ence.
The Detroit JCC is affiliated with
the JCC Maccabi Games, an inter-
national youth games movement for
Jewish teens ages 13-16.
Tarrance is one of eight people
from throughout the U.S. chosen by
the Jewish Community Centers
Association of North America to
attend the conference.
Involved with Maccabi for three
years, she was an assistant games
director for the 1998 Maccabi in
Detroit. Tarrance has been on the
JCC staff for four years.

In addition to her regular staff
duties, Tarrance served as regional
director for the Nike 3 for All girls
basketball program, supervising
eight regional sites. She assisted
directors at all sites and helped pro-
duce a half-time program for the
University of Michigan women's bas-
ketball team. At.U-M, she had been
an All-Big-10 volleyball player.
Tarrance chairs the West
Bloomfield Relay for Life, which
raises money for the American
Cancer Society. This year's relay is in
memory of the late Alex Graham, a
West Bloomfield High School stu-
dent and former Maccabi partici-
pant.
In June, Tarrance will co-chair a
JCCA-sponsored sports and leagues
conference in New Jersey.
