ALYN HOSPITAL TODAY...

Each year more than 5,000 children and young adults are referred to
ALYN Hospital to start long journeys of rehabilitation. Some arrive by
ambulance, in comas, their conditions requiring that their rehabilita-
tion begin while they still require acute care.

It is a story that has provided hope for countless families in Israel
whose children have been cruelly disabled by disease, birth defects
and the long-term neurological and physical impairments commonly
found among the survivors of cancer, fire and both domestic and
automobile accidents.

ALYN has welcomed all children in need of its services regardless of
religion, nationality, ethnic background or economic status. ALYN
represents pluralism in its purest form and makes no distinction
among secular, Reform, Conservative, modern Orthodox or ultra-
Orthodox Jews who comprise 70 percent of the patient population.
Additionally, 30 percent of the more than 5,000 children admitted
each year as residential and/or outpatients are from Arab families.

El Children suffering from cancer are referred to ALYN Hospital for
physical rehabilitation by top hospitals throughout Israel.

Approximately 70% of all the children and young adults suffering
from head injuries caused by automobile accidents in Israel are
rehabilitated at ALYN.

ALYN Hospital is usually described as Israel's only comprehensive
pediatric orthopedic hospital and physical rehabilitation center.

In short, ALYN Hospital is simply a very special place that makes it
possible for extraordinary people to do ordinary things in the face of
some of life's cruelest adversities.
