Israel Fest
On May 21

The community will get a "Passport to
Israel," when the annual Israel Fest, in
honor of Israel's 52nd anniversary, takes
place 1-4 p.m. Sunday, May 21, on the
grounds of Temple Emanu-El in Oak
Park.
Co-sponsored by agencies and pro-
grams of the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit, Israel Fest will
feature entertainment, "tours" of Israeli
sites and Israeli food.
The Shachar Ensemble from Kiev
will perform folk dances and songs.
Members of the Kiev group are universi-
ty students who have studied music
since childhood and appeared before
Jewish audiences all over Ukraine,
Russia and Israel. Musician-comedian
Ron Coden also will entertain.
Visitors to Israel Fest will stop at dif-
ferent stations to get their "passports"
stamped, and receive a prize later for
completing the tour. There will be story-
telling in a Bedouin tent, wall climbing
in "the Golan" and hands-on craft activi-
ties, including Yemenite jewelry making.
Kosher Israeli snacks and refreshments
will be available for purchase.
Co-sponsors of Israel Fest are
Federation's Michigan/Israel Connection
and Neighborhood Project, the Agency
for Jewish Education of Metropolitan
Detroit's Jewish Experiences For
Families and the Jewish Community
Center of Metropolitan Detroit.
Event sponsors are Nancy and Steven
Grand, Marta and Ben Rosenthal;
Michael and Elaine Serling and the Ben
N. Teitel Charitable Trust.
