[XPiRliNa THE BEST Of ISRAEL
IN ONE AFTERNOON.

fUN FOR THE WHOLE DAILY:

ome 275 Jews, mostly
Russian-speakers, gathered
at Temple Emanu-El on
Sunday to honor the
Russians who fought in World War
II against the Nazis as part of the
Allied Forces.
"Whether you are from the for-
mer Soviet Union or the United
States, we thank you," said Leslee
Magidson, managing director of the
Jimmy Prentis Morris Building of
the Jewish Community Center in
Oak Park.
"It is our hope that today and
every day we will remember the indi-
viduals who dedicated their lives to
the cause of freedom and to pray for

those victims whose lives were taken
in the most tragic period in history,"
she added.
Following the speeches and a can-
dle-lighting ceremony, the crowd was
entertained with songs and dances.
Co-sponsoring the program were
the Russian Acculturation Program
at the JCC, Association of WWII
Veterans from the Former Soviet
Union, Department of Michigan
Jewish War Veterans, Shaarit
Haplaytah (the local Holocaust sur-
vivors' group) and CHAIM
(Children of Holocaust-survivors
Association In Michigan). ❑
