Dubner's memoir, Turbulent Souls, is a power- ful account of how the author uncovered his Jewish roots. The youngest of eight children, Dubner was raised Pho to by David Sachs DiscoVER__ in upstate New York in a devout Catholic family. Though he'd hear the word "Jewish" mentioned in his home, he said Jews were not a topic of discussion. "I knew my parents were weird, but I thought it was because they were from Brooklyn," said Dubner to the more CARLA JEAN than 600 patrons. Dubner then learned that he was Jewish because of Halacha (Jewish law). "It made me curious about my family and about myself," he said.
