Summer Rates

Newsman Speaking
At Council Forum

Special summer membership rates are
being offered at the Jewish Community
Center during its May-June member-
ship special. Discounted rates are avail-
able in all categories, including family,
health club (age 35 and up) and young
adult health club (ages 18-34).
The Jewish Community Center in
West Bloomfield will offer its summer
swim club in June, July and August.
Three-month swim club memberships
are available and yearly memberships
are offered at reduced rates.
The three-month swim club mem-
bership is valid from Memorial Day
through Labor Day. Swim club mem-
bers may also use the tracks, gym,
Olympic weight room and courts.
Health club members are also entitled
to use the fitness center. JCC members
receive reduced rates on classes.
The summer membership special is
also available at the Jewish Community
Center in Oak Park. Membership
includes use of the indoor pool, gym
and tracks, as well as reduced rates on
classes. JPM health club members have
access to the facility's fitness center.
A JCC membership is valid at both
locations. Applicants for membership
who have not been an annual JCC
member in the last 12 months are eligi-
ble to join.

since 1963. A member of the Detroit
News staff for 23 years, he has been
a columnist for the past 20 years and
now also serves as an editorial writer.

meeting. The council also will recog-
nize the volunteer work of the
Detroit Jewish Coalition for
Literacy. Established by the council
in 1998, the DJCL consists of 22
member organizations and utilizes a
network of 200 volunteers, working
in 24 schools in both Wayne and
Oakland counties.

program, which is open to the pub-
