Names Honorees .

Congregation B'nai Moshe will
acknowledge Peter and Shirlye Helman
as this year's Jewish Theological
Seminary honorees at a JTS Shabbat,
Saturday, May
13. JTS will
present the
t Shin Award
to the
Helmans at
the annual
Peter and Shirlye Heiman dinner
Tuesday, May
30, at Adat Shalom Synagogue.
Peter Heiman retired after a career as
owner of Ardmore Building Company, a
commercial home construction firm.
His Jewish volunteer involvements
include B'nai B'rith, Bar-Ilan University,
Yeshiva Beth Yehudah, Technion and the
Jewish War Veterans. He is a life mem-
ber of the 12th Armored Division
Veterans' Association, the Scleroderma
Foundation and the Karmanos Cancer
Research Institute.
Shirlye Heiman is a life member of
Hadassah. She was active at Hillel Day
School of Metropolitan Detroit, where
her children attended. She is a member
of David Horodoker Society and Jewish
War Veterans. She trained as a registered
nurse in St. Louis.
B'nai Moshe members serving on the
local JTS board include Dr. Marc
Borovoy, Dr. Mathew Borovoy, Dennis
Deutsch, Susan Friedman and Robert
Roth. Chairing the B'nai Moshe JTS
committee are Lori and Maurice Pogoda
and Kay and Ira Harris.
B'nai Moshe members Judith
Horowitz and Elana Roth are among the
more than 20 students from Detroit
studying at JTS.

Spaces Available
On Rafting Trip

A few spaces remain for a family white
water rafting trip over Memorial Day
weekend, May 26-29. The West Virginia
trip is sponsored by the Jewish
Community Center of Metropolitan
Detroit and Tamarack Camps.
The trip will take place on the New
River in Fayetteville, W. Va., and include
transportation, rafting, camping and
meals (with a vegetarian option) except
for Friday and Monday lunch. The
options of mountain biking, climbing,
rappelling and hotel accommodations
are available for an additional charge.
