Eileen Aboulafia's
photos taken during
a 1998 group jour-
ne• to Belarus. The individuals -
to whom the travelers feel
bonded were killed by the
Nazis, and so the images must
be of the spaces these lost souls
occupied and knew.
One picture shows massive
trees that define the landscape.
Another has a shoe turned
over in a field. The next cap-
tures desecrated headstones.
When people of the area are
included, they give a sense of
the Old World --- babushka-
wearing women, young boys
roaming outdoors.
Aboulafia., a multimedia
artist who works largely with
