Lag b'Omer Concert
At Shaarey Zedek

The 2000 Peter and Clara Weisberg -
The Voice of Akiva concert will take
place 8 p.m. Monday, May 22, at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek. The musi-
cal celebration of the
holiday of Lag b'omer,
includes songs of
Jewish survival, corn-
mitment and the
struggle for religious
freedom.
The concert
includes a perfor-

Zimrah, the Jewish
Community Singers of Chicago, direct-
ed by Cantor Richard Cohn. A special
Torah Mantel will be presented at the
event to Shaarey Zedek President Larry
Berry in honor of Cantor Chaim
Najman's presidency of the Cantors
Assembly. Tickets are required and may
be ordered, free of charge, by sending a
written request and a stamped, self-

'Aspects of the Russian Aliya in Israel" 2
p.m. Tuesday, May 23, at the Max M.
Fisher Building in
Bloomfield Township.
Myers grew up in
San Francisco. His
degree was in interna-
tional studies from
Pomona College in
1978. His choice of
Russian as a foreign
language led him to
Mark Myers
work at the Hebrew
Immigrant Aid
Society with Soviet Jews in Vienna and
Rome.
His first visit to Israel led to his deci-
sion in 1980 to make his life there. He
has been a teacher of Jewish and general
history at his kibbutz, Ma'agan Michael.
The meeting is open to the commu-
nity. Refreshments will be served.
Metro Detroit parents who have chil-
dren living in Israel are invited to join
