Paul Silverman. The
ad takes up the largest
portion of the Web site's homepage.
You'll have to look to the left here to
find the contents of the Web site:
Candle-lighting Times, Prayers for
Special Occasions, Weekly Torah
Portions, Calendar of Holidays,
Shopping and Jewish Links.
The candle-lighting times come
from your choice of two sources, the
Union of Orthodox Jewish
Congregations of America and the
Chabad (the Lubavitch outreach orga-
nization). The first is fairly limited,
not even offering candle-lighting times
for our own fair city, but that of the
Chabad allows you to type in your
ZIP code. My own ZIP came up with-
out errors.
The Prayers for Special Occasions
button is useful for the college student

The Calendar of Holidays is a five-
year chart, and the Shopping button is
maybe just a sly way of selling adver-
tising space. A click on the Jewish
Links page will give the college stu-
dent access to every branch of
Judaism, Jewish fraternities and sorori-
ties, Jewish organizations, and more.
We'd like to see this Web site
grow to include more information of
concern to Jewish students on cam-
pus: antisemitism, U.S. and Israeli
politics, perhaps links specific to
Jewish support institutions and orga-
nizations near campus, and more.

A chat room might be nice, too,
and maybe a personals page. Not
every Jewish college student goes to
a University of Michigan with 6,000
other Jewish students, and any help
keeping the kids Jewish will go a
long way toward easing parental (or
freshman) anxiety.
