homosexuality and Judaism ("The
Rabbis Interpret," April 14, page 16),
I found myself asking how some of
these individuals have the audacity to
even call themselves rabbis.
The panel was asked their inter-
pretation of a certain line in Leviti-
cus, more specifically the word
"abomination." While some of the
rabbis offered their plausible insights
into this passage, Tamara Kolton
and Debrah Cohen chose instead to
share with us their warped sense of
Judaism.
It is our strong belief in tradition
and moral and ethical values that
has sustained us as a people for
more than 5700 years. We have
passed on our love for HaShem and
the Torah from generation to gener-
ation, but Ms. Kolton has the gall to
say that the "document" is "wrong
and when it is wrong, it needs to be
changed."
First off, the Torah is no mere doc-
ument, but a way of life that each and
every Jew should aspire to live by. By
referring to it as a document, it shows
how little respect Ms. Kolton has for
the Torah to begin with. And who are
you to say it is wrong? You should be
embarrassed to even utter such a state-
ment in public, but then again, the
Secular Humanist movement seems to
leave the name of God out of just
about everything.
As for Ms. Cohen's mystical expla-
nation regarding the difference
between the black words and the
white spaces, am I the only person
who read that paragraph and won-
dered what that meant?
It is a shame that any non-Jewish
person who read that article is proba-
bly wondering what religion many of
the Jews today are practicing because
it certainly doesn't jibe with what
they've read in their history books.

Where Are
Priorities?

David Gad-Harf and the million
moms could do more good by staying
home ("I Will March With Millions
Of Moms," April 28, page 40). They
should spend the time with their kids
instead of leaving them home to
watch TV and movies that glorify vio-
lence, perversion, revenge, materialism
and rudeness.
The real source of antisocial
behavior is lack of attention to kids

during their formative years. Guns
are the implements of violence and
not the inspiration. Violent kids,
and adult criminals who start as vio-
lent kids, likely come from homes
where communication and involve-
ment between parents, and child
care, are lacking. For there to be an
effective two-way communication
(not just discipline), Mom has to be
there instead of out chasing after
foolish causes.
Before I'm branded a National Rifle
Association fanatic, I must point out
that I support the gun-show loophole;
but I don't want more laws that are
unenforceable other than after the fact
as retribution.
It is appallingly naive to believe
that trigger locks would have
stopped the Columbine gunmen,
and a wealth of existing laws did not
stop fools from placing weapons in
their hands. A person who leaves a
gun on the floor in the reach of a
child cannot be expected to install a
trigger lock. Gun show traders shirk
the responsibility for placing
weapons in a stranger's hands (this is
a trade issue unrelated to the right
to bear arms), but questionable
amendments like trigger-lock man-
dates give them the ammunition to
defeat a million marching moms.
