argie Razar's favorite
holiday is Passover.
During her home seder,
dressed up by a brightly
colored ritual plate she designed and
made, she lets her mind wander to
seders in 500 other homes, all cele-
brating with china she has crafted.
"I think seder plates are so special,
and I sell them all over the country,"
says Razar, whose Judaica works will be
on display Sunday, May 7, as part of
the second annual Bais Chabad Judaica
Art Exhibit planned by Congregation
Bais Chabad of West Bloomfield.
"While we go through the Haggada, I
have this image of all the plates being
used, and I feel so connected."
Razar, who has lived in Ann
Arbor and now makes her home in
Illinois, will be among 10 artists
showing work and being present to
meet viewers and answer questions.
Nine are new to this venue.
Razar, who also dabbles in
watercolors and oils, makes all
: kinds of hand-painted ritual items,
including mezuzot and menorot.

them bright and shiny.
"I've been doing this for 26 years,"
says Razar, who layers her colors and
sometimes incorporates flowers into
her designs. "I saw a piece of hand-
painted porcelain and met someone
who could teach me the techniques.
A year after starting private lessons, I
was selling what I had made."
Natalie Lipnik, program coordina-
tor for the show, has been tracking
Judaica artists since last year.
"We're celebrating art, so this is not
limited to the Orthodox community,"
Lipnik says. "Each of our artists does
something different. I found them
through contacts in other cities and
the Internet. I tried to stick to con-
temporary artists."
