Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Michelle Rebecca Blum will be
called to the Torah as a bat mitzvah
on Saturday, April
29, at Temple
Emanu-El. Michelle
is the daughter of
Karen and Steven
Blum and the sister
of Melissa. She is
the granddaughter
of Dorothy and
Eddie Blum and
great-granddaughter of Betty Beare.
Michelle is also the granddaughter of
the late Lorraine and Bernard Yaker.
Michelle is a seventh-grade honor
_ student at Warner Middle School in
Farmington Hills. Her interests
include creative writing, arts and
crafts and listening to music.
For her mitzvah project, Michelle
volunteered this past summer at New
Horizons rehabilitation services. She
assisted in providing vocational
training activities to persons with
developmental disabilities. •

Jacob Hurwitz-Goodman celebrated
his bar mitzvah on Saturday, April
15, with Workmen's
Circle/Arbeter
Ring. Friends and
family joined Jacob,
his parents Julie
Hurwitz and Bill
Goodman, and his
siblings Nicholas,
Daniel, Michael,
Amy and David.
Proud grandmothers are Freda
Goodman and Beverly Hurwitz.
Participating in the service were
shule students singing as a chorus to
honor Jacob, led by music teacher
Esther Freeman. Shule Director Jan
Adler officiated and Michigan
District Chair Arlene Frank brought
greetings. Jacob's bar mitzvah pre-
sentation was titled "Ernie
Goodman: People's Lawyer, My
Grandfather." For his Yiddish com-
ponent, Jacob recited a quote from
civil rights activist Fanny Lou
Hamer and a passage from Amos
5:21-24. Jacob is in the seventh
grade at Friends School in Detroit.
His hobbies include playing the
piano, movie-making and reading.
For his community service project,
he worked at St. Leo's soup kitchen,
moving furniture, cleaning and
preparing food. He also sang for res-
idents at the Teitel and Prentis
Jewish Apartments.

Ashleigh Kaplan, niece of Sari and
Jeffrey Weiss, will become a bat mitzvah
on Saturday, April 29,
at Congregation Beth
Ahm.
Ashleigh is the sis-
ter of Nicole Kaplan
and cousin to Joshua
and Kenneth Weiss.
She is also the grand-
daughter of Marion
Kaplan and the late
John S. Kaplan.
Ashleigh is a seventh-grade student at
Walnut Creek Middle School in Walled
Lake. Her interests include dancing and
art. For her mitzvah project, she chose
to volunteer at the Fleischman
Residence in West Bloomfield.

Jeffrey Richard Simon will become a
bar mitzvah on Saturday, April 29, at
Temple Beth El. Jeffrey is the son of Lisa
and David Simon and
brother of Joshua.
Excited grandparents
are Sally and Elliott
Shepard and Sharon
and Marvin Waits. He
is also the grandson of
the late Richard
Simon.
Jeff is an honor stu-
dent at Orchard Lake Middle School in
West Bloomfield. He enjoys computers,
in-line hockey, basketball, football, water
sports and is especially fond of baseball.
Jeff also plays clarinet with the Kids Klez
Band of Michigan and the bass clarinet
in the Orchard Lake Middle School
Symphony Band. His mitzvah projects
included volunteering at COTS and
assisting with a third-grade class on
Sundays at Temple Beth El.

Adam Michael Wolf will be called to
the Torah as a bar mitzvah on Saturday,
April 29, at Congregation B'nai
Moshe. He is the son
of David and Marlene
Wolf and brother of
Erin. Proud grandpar-
ents are Janet and Ben
Korn, Dolly and Stan
Wolf. Equally proud
is great-grandmother
Grace Ross.
Adam is a seventh-
grade honor student at Hillel Day
School of Metropolitan Detroit in
Farmington Hills. He is active in basket-
ball, soccer and skiing. Adam continues
to enjoy his weekly visits to the
Fleischman Residence in West
Bloomfield, where he dances with the
seniors and helps serve snacks.
