A big grin grew over my face, and with each step I took my glowing face got brighter and brighter. I was all alone, just me, no one else. The rest of my family was behind and Alon (our guide) was in front of me. My eyes captured everything — all of the red rocks and little pieces of gravel, and the colorful sunset. I didn't need my camera to take the pictures; my mind could capture all the memories. The gravel path crunched every time I took a step. The sand would fly up into the air, making clouds of white dust. There were millions and millions of tiny white and gray stones, just like the millions and mil- lions of memories I have from Israel. When the white cloud of dust got on me, I could feel every grain of sand touch my dirty legs. The smell was like a little itching in my nose. Orange, red and pink colors float- ed through my mind as they did through the desert sky in Israel. Half of the sun was still brightly shining; covering up the other half were the colors of the sunset. The perfect red rocks looked almost as though thousands of years ago someone had actually painted all of the rocks red. The desert was like a big mural, not painted by Monet, Michelangelo or Degas, but a big mural painted by God. Standing on top of them was like standing on top of the world. My deepest feelings were no longer buried deep inside me when I stood on top of the rocks. I felt the whole world would know every- thing from deep down inside that dark hole just from the smile on my face. I remember searching the sky and taking pictures — two of them. They were the last two on the roll of film, but never my last memory of the desert. All the camera did was paint the picture more clearly, but my mind was the real camera. I snapped the photo in my mind.
