Strengthening Our State ... Together

THE MICHIGAN
JEWISH CONFERENCE

pirri he Jewish Federation knows how important

it is for small Jewish communities to stay

connected with each other, to share their

concerns and speak with one voice when a strong

Jewish position is required.

That's why the Michigan Jewish Conference was

created I0 years ago with Federation support and

oversight.

Besides maintaining a Jewish presence in Lansing and

addressing the political and community relations

needs of its members, the Michigan Jewish

Conference (MJC) provides a forum for statewide

Jewish communities to collaborate and exchange ideas.

The MJC works with various coalitions on issues such

as education and welfare reform, monitors legislation

and sponsors several major programs, like the official

State of Michigan Holocaust Commemoration,

arranged with the Governor's office.

These activities lend strength to the partnership

communities of the Michigan Jewish Conference:

Ann Arbor, Battle Creek, Bay City, Detroit, Flint,

Grand Rapids, Houghton/Hancock, Jackson, Kalamazoo,

1999 official State of Michigan Holocaust Commemoration: Rep. Steve
Pestka, Grand Rapids, with his father, a survivor, and his nephew

Lansing, Midland, Muskegon, Petoskey, Saginaw, South

Haven and Traverse City.

Our communities may be separated by some miles —

and in one case, by a pretty big lake. But we're united

by a lot more.
