As I learned on the March of the Living/Teen Unity Mission, the divi- sions between the streams of Judaism are not important as long as we are able to join together as a whole while respecting each other's differences. This focus has helped me under- stand how the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit operates and it came particularly into play as I helped to plan the high school tzedaka campaign kick-off— Mitzvah Day. The steering committee had assis- tance from Federation volunteer Gina Horwitz, and staffers Lauren 4/21 2000 Rachel Boyman, 17, assists siblings Sara Nathanson, 8, and Andrew, 5, all of West Bloomfield at the Barbara and Douglas Bloom Matza Factory, hosted by Chabad and the West Bloomfield Jewish Community Center.
