Poster Contest
Hillel Lauds
Its Patrons
HIAS, the Hebrew Immigrant Aid
Society, will sponsor a poster con-
test for new immigrant youth to
express their feelings about their
new country.
This year's theme asks partici-
pants to "Create a New Symbol for
America in the 21st Century." The
contest is open to youngsters
between the ages of 4 and 15. Only
one entry per contestant can be sub-
mitted. It must be on paper no larg-
er than 20"x 24" in any medium.
Submissions will be divided by
age groups.
The grand prize winner will receive
a $1,000 U.S. savings bond. Three
runners-up will receive special recogni-
tion prizes. All 12 finalists will receive
a certificate of achievement and have
their posters included in the HIAS
calendar for 2001.

donation of $613 per couple.
Stuart Schoffman, associate editor
and columnist at the Jerualem Report,
will be the featured speaker May 4.
Before making aliya in 1988, he
worked as a journalist for Fortune
and Time magazines in New York,
was a screenwriter for Hollywood
studios and producers. He was a
teacher of American history at the
University of Texas and of film at the
University of Southern California.

Dove Dinner
Set For May
"Celebrate the Spirit of Ecumenical
Institute" is the theme of the annual
Dove Dinner, 7 p.m. Thursday, May
11, at the Spirit of Ford Museum in
Dearborn.
The Ecumenical Institute for
Jewish-Christian Studies fosters
greater understanding between Jews
and Christians.
Through classes in churches and
synagogues as well as programs such
as an annual church-synagogue tour,
Passover model seder, an education-
al Web site and co-production of
the cable television show "What's
Faith Go To Do With It?" the
Southfield-based institute provides
opportunities for discussion of the
issues often sources of tension
between the Jewish and Christian
communities.
The Dove Dinner is the
Ecumenical Institute's annual fund-

Limud Leaders
Art Honored
At Shabbat services on Saturday,
April 22, Adat Shalom Synagogue
will honor congregants who have
completed the synagogue's first two-
year Limud Leaders program.
Participants will be given certifi-
cates and gifts from the synagogue.
Essays written by the Limud Leaders,
which explain the Pesach festival
liturgy and Torah readings, will be
presented.
