Is Involved

Suzanne Chessler wrote an extremely
comprehensive report on Hadassah's
young women and their involvement
("Leadership Builder," March 31).
I am often asked, "How does
Hadassah get so many young women
in a time when young people do not
have the time or inclination to com-
mit?" My reply is, "Listen and
change." If something isn't working,
stop doing it. Find out what young
Jewish women want; listen and
respond to their wants and needs.
Hadassah has 88 years of solid leader-
ship in Zionism, Jewish heritage, health,
education and social action issues. We
take what is strong and positive, then
change the approach considering a
woman's needs and demanding time
crunch. Hadassah is also aware that
many professional women don't have
time to juggle work, family and volun-
teerism. So we have combined the pro-
fession with a Hadassah council. Thus,
she can socially interact and profession-
ally network while attending a meeting
that educates and provides insight into
her Jewishness.
Today's Hadassah is aware of indi-
vidual needs and strives to meet them.
