Dor is a Reform Jew. "I heard about
the trip in school and thought it
sounded interesting. My parents are
very happy. They have pride that I
was chosen."
After the mifgash, the first-time vis-
itor planned to spend time with his
great-uncle and cousins in Detroit.
He added, "The best way to know
the place is to know the people. I am
looking forward to meeting the people
that live here."
He was excited about seeing the
Pistons, who he roots for via the
Internet. "I started being a fan because
of my family in Detroit, but I like the
Pistons. Even if they moved to New
York, I would still like them. They are
my team."
Two of the visitors are staying with
Dan Peterman, 17, of Farmington
Hills and his family, Temple Shir
Shalom members. Dan planned the
teens' scavenger hunt. "I've never met
an Israeli before," he said. "I'm look-
ing forward to the experience. It will
be my first time in Israel this summer.
I know it will change how I look at
my life and religion."
Maor Kima of Migdal HaEmek is
staying with the Petermans. His fami-
ly is Conservative. "My family keeps
kosher and observes the holidays. We
do drive on Shabbat and do not
attend synagogue. I want to know

more about Reform Judaism."
He said he wants "to give more
