Todd Benjamin Cherkinsky will be
called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah
on Saturday, April
8, at Temple Israel.
He is the son of
Barbara and
Edward Cherkinsky
and brother of
Jason. Delighted
grandparents are
Libby and Murray
Cherkinsky and
Lillian Solomon. He is also the
grandson of the late William
Solomon.
• Among his mitzvah projects,
Todd volunteered at the Jewish
Association for Residential Care,
participated in the National Bone
Marrow Link and assisted at the
Temple Israel Labor Day picnic.
Attending Warner Middle School in
Farmington Hills, where he is an
honor student, Todd plays trumpet
in the school bands and enjoys play-
ing basketball and golf.

James Michael Cohen will become
a bar mitzvah on Saturday, April 8,
at Temple Emanu-
El. James is the son
of Beth (Anbender)
and Ronald Cohen
and the brother of
David. He is the
grandson of Arlene
Anbender, Shirley
Cohen Modiano
and Joseph
Modiano. James is
also the grandson of the late Louis
Cohen and the late Samuel
Anbender.
James is a seventh-grade student
at Orchard Lake Middle School in
West Bloomfield. His interests
include performing magic, playing
video games and listening to music.
He also has an avid interest in play-
ing and watching hockey.
For his mitzvah project, James
volunteered at Yad Ezra and as a
mother's helper.

Douglas Allen Coursen will be
called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah
on Saturday, April 8, at Temple Kol
Ami. Doug is the son of Judi and
Greg Coursen and brother of
Lindsay and Matthew. Proud grand-
parents are.June and Bill Denenberg

Doug is an
honor student at
Warner Middle
School in
Farmington Hills. He enjoys play-
ing hockey and baseball and is a
trumpet player in the school band.
Doug's mitzvah projects included
volunteering at Yad Ezra and help-
ing with after-school intramural
sports. In addition, Doug has cho-
sen to make a contribution to the
NHL Assist program of Detroit.

Jeffrey Scott Gudes will celebrate
his bar mitzvah at Temple Israel on
Friday, April 7. He
is the son of Cristie
and Jerry Gudes
and brother of
Lindsey. Excited
grandmothers are
Elizabeth Camino
and Adtle Gudes.
He is also the
grandson of the late
Alfred Camino and the late Dr.
David Gudes.
An honor student at Orchard__
Lake Middle School in West
Bloomfield, Jeffrey likes hockey,
golf, football, volleyball, skiing and
snowmobiling as well as math. His
most meaningful mitzvah project
was performing for the seniors at
Fleischman Residence.

Jesse Shepherd Bates will be called
to the Torah as a bar mitzvah on
Saturday, April 8,
at Temple Shir
Shalom. Jesse is the
son of Wendy
Shepherd and
Daniel Bates and
brother of Frannie
Shepherd-Bates.
Proud grandparents
are Marion and
Milton Bates. Jesse is also the
grandson of the late Frances and
David Shepherd.
A seventh-grader at Walnut Creek
Middle School in Walled Lake, Jesse
is active in student council, plays the
saxophone, is a member of the award-
winning Men's Chorus and has been a
peer mediator for two years. For his
community service, Jesse helped out
at Temple Shir Shalom and partici-
pated for the ninth year in one of his
favorite projects, UNICEF.
