Jewish Vocational Service (JFS)
will host a parent informational
meeting on the Jewish
Educational Loan Service
GELS) and additional financial
aid options for college students
7 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, in the
JVS library in Southfield.
JELS coordinator Marvin
Berman will discuss how to
apply for an interest-free loan
through JELS. JELS is open to
Detroit area Jewish residents
and is administered through
JVS, Hebrew Free Loan
Association and Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit.
Dr. Berman also will address
the availability of financial assis-
tance through state, federal,
institutional and private
sources. Although the meeting
will be directed toward parents,
students are welcome.

Scholarships
To Academy

The Jewish Academy of
Metropolitan Detroit will offer
$2,500 merit-based scholarships to
be applied toward tuition at the
academy.
Awards will be made solely on the
basis of merit, independent of finan-
cial need, to students entering the
academy in ninth or 10th grade for
the 2000-2001 school year.
Up to three scholarships will be
awarded in each of four different
areas: academic excellence in general
studies, distinction in Jewish studies
and Jewish living, excellence in
extracurricular activities and leader-
ship in community service.
