From Israel To Comerica Park

he story of the realistic sculptures of five
Tiger greats adorning Comerica Park has
its roots in Italy, where the now
husband-and-wife artistic team met.
They lived in Israel for a time before settling
in Chicago, where their sculpture of basketball
legend Michael Jordan so impressed the Ilitch
family, they were chosen to showcase the fruits of
their creativity in the new home of the Detroit
Tigers. The first home game in Comerica Park,
by the way, is April 11, against the Seattle
Mariners.
Special writer Suzanne Chessler wrote this
week's cover story about the sculptures (pages 86-
89) under the direction of Arts & Entertainment
Editor Gail Zimmerman.
